Lusting over Lichtenstein

Looking to the past for future inspirations is key for a creative mind. The eyes, mind and soul are constantly wandering and lusting for new creative direction and recently I have found myself in search for a boost of creative energy. My recent rediscovering of Roy Lichtenstein has me falling in love all over again with his use of color.  I happened to stumble upon Liechtenstein’s art over the weekend and haven’t been able to get his retro take on pop art out of my head. With this hot summer heat radiating down upon the city I have been gravitating more and more towards bold colors, especially summer yellow. My recent Lichtenstein obsession has me spinning with ideas for future collections as well as how I can incorporate this new creative boost into my current wardrobe.

Many of the interns are art majors or minors so we’ve been having an ongoing discussion all day debating our favorite Lichtenstein pieces as well as how this pop art genre has inspired so many amazing looks throughout history. From 60’s flower child, to color blocking, and today’s ever popular youthful festival wear, it seems that pop art inspired style is constantly being recycled throughout the generations. I love looking back at how trends from the past have influenced popular looks today! It’s always so fun to take a trip down memory lane isn’t it?

To make this look work for you throw on your favorite summer colors in the forms of geometric shapes or free spirited patterns. Layer your look with Susanna Galanis chains featuring charms and gems finally, finish your look off with a gorgeous gold cuff from my collection. There are so many ways to make this look work for you so have fun with it my fashionistas/os!

Stay inspired my darlings!

xoxo,

Susanna

My day with the Gods

My favorite Gods of New York City.

Its Sunday in the magnificent New York City. A beautiful, sunny day. Yet, I feel so blue.

“It’s normal” I say to myself. “We just had a tremendous and very cruel hurricane storm, Sandie, and the catastrophe it brought to this beautiful place is devastating —  the pain and suffering of the people is unbearable to watch. How can I feel any better?”

I knew immediately what to do. Go to the Met [Metropolitan Museum of Art.] My favorite place in the entire world. This is where I visit the Gods, the Goddesses, the nymphs, the warriors and the heroes and I draw strength and energy from the divine — my divine ancestors.

It was an unusually brilliant and sunny early afternoon. As soon as I run up the stairs, a beautiful flock of birds with wings flickering up  in the sun  light greeted me. The sun rays were so defined and  intense against the  background of the museum. It felt like a divine sign, an omen, a blessing.  “What is this supposed to mean?” I said to myself.  “It’s definitely something good.” But, I always feel good when I go to the museum. This is why I go there when I have the blues. It is my divine cathedral, my temple, a holy place.

Well, this incredible feeling skyrocketed as soon as I saw Zeus, Hercules, Apollo, Alexander, Dionysos, Artemis, Athena and Aphrodite! They were all there. I cannot describe the feeling. “I am not surprised at all that these great Gods decided to make New York City their home,” I thought to my self giggling.

While I stood in front of the huge column right at the center of the Grecian and Roman Galleries, I felt compelled to touch it! “Can I touch this?” I said to the guard. “Why?” he answered. “I just want to connect with its energy” I said. “OK. I will turn around pretending that I didn’t see you.” He said. Wow!!! it felt like electricity running through my left arm. I had shivers. A stand with a mask featuring my glorious Macedonian ancestor Alexander The Great, and a favorite of all of my favorite Gods, was to the left.  His father Zeus [according to the myths and the legends] was a few steps besides him. The atmosphere was magical. I felt like one of the dancing meneads…in a trance…worshiping drunken Dionysos that was further down the hall. Oh…just a reminder… I promised you in the past that I will write about  Queen Olympias of Macedon [Alexander’s divine mother]…well, wait a see how she was worshiping God Dionysos…coming next.

At the fountain, further down, I tossed a coin making a wish about my beautiful city NYC. May the Gods always protect you and may you continue to prosper and excel and be the City of Lights for eternity! May you always be favored by the divine Gods!

Gossip Girl, “Goddess Inspired” jewelry and … history repeating

GOSSIP GIRL

One of my secret indulgences is Gossip Girl — my favorite TV show at the moment. Although I very rarely watch TV, this is an exception.  I am having so much fun watching the young New York’s Upper Eastsiders  have their adventures in the City  — and in other glamorous parts of the world as well.

For those of you who are not as obsessed as I am about the show, and do not understand what I am talking about, Gossip Girl is an American young adult drama series based on the book of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesen.  Narrated by the omniscient, yet unseen blogger “gossip girl” the series revolves around the lives, romances and notoriety of privileged young college boys and girls on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in New York City.

There is an  “it” girl,  a modern-day queen with a certain “attitude,” several princesses, a beautiful cast, lots of parties, twists, turns, betrayals, backstabbing, manipulations, gossip, hook-ups, break-ups…hook-ups again…break-ups again…and so on… What a modern-day drama for the young set in New York City — glamorous drama! Sometimes I wonder, “why didn’t I have this much fun during my FIT days in New York City? I remember the fashion, I remember dating a few guys from Columbia, but, I don’t remember having that many fun complications. Oh! now it’s slowly coming back…

I remember my “best friend” Domenica backstabbing me and trying to steal my possible future “boyfriend” Dimitri (a Columbia student from Athens), I remember Leo, Dimitri’s friend (a serious financier in London today, and a serious womanizer), who at that time, he was “seriously” dating my friend Anna… and he was pursuing me as well…I remember my friend  Stephan (a British-French banker from Brown University) who was dating a beautiful soap opera actress named Amanda and he was pursuing Carole (my French girlfriend)… who was in a serious relationship with Frank… and yet, she was not…I remember Stephan’s friend Johan (a beautiful Swedish man working at Citibank)… and that I had a serious crush on him…and all this was happening while I was in an “on-again-off-again”  relationship with a very complicated young man named Michael (a computer engineering student living in Brooklyn Heights) whose roommate Nico was… you get the story: the more things change, the more they stay the same. It’s history repeating in New York City.

I get a thrill watching this modern-day drama. I especially get a thrill when they are honoring me by wearing my jewelry as they did in Season 4. The new season 5 premiers on September 26th, and I can’t wait! You must watch!
