Enchanted Heart

SG Crystal 016

Enchanted Forest – this is where I envision my favorite Gods Apollo and Daphne [and inspirations for the Fall’13 jewelry collection I designed] dealing with their love “issues” caused by the spell of Eros and where Daphne finally metamorphoses into the immortal laurel tree. Sad story yet, very true.

Love matters. Period. Apollo learned this lesson the hard way. Daphne was gone…and Apollo immortalized her…according to the myths and the legends…[Please see my November 29th post on the tragic love between Apollo and Daphne.]

Oh… those ancient Greeks, they were very wise, they tought us so many valuable lessons. Don’t ever underestimate the significance and power of love. I, for sure do not want Eros to teach me another lesson ever again – lesson learned when his arrow got me and my beautiful heart was severely wounded by a Nordic man reminiscent of a Greek God… anyway… “love yourself first” I say… lesson learned. I suppose I can say how sorry and sad I was but, at the end it was all good. Did I learn a lesson? absolutely! Love matters. Period!

“Nature does nothing foolishly.” Aristotle, 384 BC- 322 BC

Going back to the subject  that inspired me to write this blog: fashion advertising: Shu Pei is back once again for the fall 2013 advertisements from New York fashion designer Vera Wang. The Chinese beauty stars in a series of dark and romantic images shot by Carter Smith made with creative direction by MODCo Creative. Shu models the designer’s collections in a beautiful forest that reminded me of Apollo and Daphne….etc…

I love these images. Mother Nature did it again…with such grace.

Pop Your Color

As much as I love a simple white tank paired with a chunky statement necklace I’ve really been drawn to bright colors and fun patterns as of lately. I browsed through some of my favorite boutiques this past weekend and couldn’t help but notice how my NYC ladies are mixing and matching contrasting colors creating creating eye catching ensembles. Even the ladies in the studio have been coming dressed to work in summer neons and brights making for a fun and festive work place! I have to say I am loving the look!

Naturally after beginning to embrace this colorful trend I couldn’t help but to think of one of my favorite artists, Andy Warhol. His works of art are nothing but genius and as all we all know, fashion and art are the greatest imitations of one another. One is always inspiring the other! You all know I love nothing more than an art inspired trend! Look below to see how I’m mixing and matching art and fashion to create an inspired look!

Mad for Men

Is it just me or are the men of New York adjusting their style along with the suns increasing heat? With every corner we turn these stunning guys seem to be turning up the heat in their summer style and may I say “Bravo!” The ladies in the studio can’t seem to stop discussing how our city men look more dapper than ever in their sleek suits and street style. I mean who can resist staring at a tall, dark, and handsome accountant strutting his stuff down West 57th or a street styled writer on a coffee run in Brooklyn?

The bolder the sun has become the bolder these New York men are with their summer time outfit selections, and yes gentlemen your NYC counterparts have noticed! Kat, just one of the lovely ladies here in the office, is ecstatic to see boat shoes back on the feet of our NYC gentlemen. With a love for all things beach-y she just can’t help but push her boyfriend to mix it up with a little summertime prep while heading out for dinner and drinks after work. Jillian, our favorite Long Island lady, is a sucker for a dark-haired man hailing a cab in a fitted Gucci suit which means lunchtime is scouting time for this debonair diva. A mixture of patterns with business wear has Alexandria lusting for a man who can rock a Marc Jacobs floral frock with the confidence of Clooney on the red carpet. Who can’t help but love a man confidently wearing a button down shirt you one day hope to steal and turn into a dress? Finally, our Jersey girl Tricia is looking for a downtown man with uptown style who can mix preppy with street chic to create an all over unique New York look. Give her a man mixing patterns and good tailoring and she’s all yours.

Each lady has such different taste in not only their menswear style but in their taste in men. The city is filled with gorgeous gentlemen all rocking the latest summer trends that any New York City fashionista can’t help but congratulate our guys on a job well done . So get ready ladies because the sun is only getting hotter and whether you’re searching for your own Aiden or Mr. Big I think we can all agree that we’ll make sure to be dressed in our Carrie Bradshaw best.

At the recent Men’s fashion shows in London, Milan, Florence and Paris for Spring –  Summer 2014, one item kept on appearing and re appearing, collection after collection:  the classic, timeless bomber jacket. It was originally worn by the pilots during WW I and WW II and it hasn’t left the fashion scene. It’s one of my favorite looks and every man should have one…or two… or three or four…It is safe, smart and sexy!

Please remember to keep it simple.

Lets celebrate the bomber jacket as a staple of urban style.

Fendi and Armani and Missoni, Oh My!

With the debut of the new Spring 2014 Menswear collections all of the girls have been scouting the fashion blogs to see what the up and coming trends are for their gender counterparts. As “oh!” and “No!” come screaming from the other room I couldn’t help but to put the ladies to the task of picking out their favorite three collections and a few looks that stood out to them. Each young woman is so unique and has such different style I thought it would be fun to see who picked the bold prints versus the tailored suits. The ladies couldn’t wait to get started and have spent all morning drooling over their favorite models all while debating the feminine take on masculinity in some of  the new spring collections. The conversation is never dull around the showroom but throw in some male models wearing designer duds and you’re sure to never hear the girls stop gabbing!

Look below to see which looks my gorgeous gals picked for their designer dudes! Stay posted to see upcoming posts on the ladies and their favorite finds as well as more on the menswear collections!

Dreaming of muscles and neck ties today my loves!

Dimitra chose Etro, Gucci, and Vivienne Westwood as her to die for menswear collection picks. She loves the feminine touches mixed with the masculine aesthetics creating an overall eccentric vibe. Dimitra is often drawn to men who know how to rock a unique street style and her collection faves show us why!

Kat loves Calvin Klein, Brioni, and Fendi as her mens must haves. A man dressed as if he may be heading to the yacht club after work is exactly what Kat is drawn to and after looking at her picks it’s easy to see why! She loved the tailored yet preppy feel of these collections and thought her sailor would look nautically dapper in any of her choices!

Alexandria chose Missoni, Burberry, and Marc Jacobs for her designer dude. Loving the mixture between preppy and patterned, Alexandria couldn’t help but lust over the well-tailored collections. Nothing attracts Alexandria more than a man in a contoured and chic style ensemble!

Tricia chose Gucci, Ports, and Roberto Cavalli as her menswear faves. She just couldn’t seem to pick one style she loved more than the other so she went with an array of mens looks. From patterned pants to oversized jackets I can’t decide if it is the clothes she loves or the models! Her picks are fabulous either way you look at it!

Jillian chose both Armani collections as well as Bottega Veneta as her best menswear looks. It is pretty evident she loves a man in a tailored ensemble, then again who doesn’t? Loving both Armani collections was an instant for our girl as she couldn’t help but lust over the gorgeous men in their well fitted threads… can you blame her? I didn’t think so!

Basic Instincts

Today’s vibe in the showroom is simple and chic with a pop of hot in the form of colorful gems and chains. With all of the girls pulling out their favorite basics and neutrals it seems that my designs are coming into use as their bold statement piece to tie their outfits together. Wether it is black on white or beige on brown each intern has worked a jewel tone into their Monday style making for an overall sexily chic and yet basic look. With the New York sun beating down on us all it only makes sense to stay cool in a slimming tank paired with an elongated chain and gem necklace. Add a basic wedge and call it a day ladies!

As for you gentlemen looking to stay basic and bold all at the same time, pair a gorgeous white linen shirt with your favorite pair of preppy solid shorts and top off the look with an elegant chain from my men’s collection. There is nothing more eye catching than a sun tanned man in linen with the confidence to rock a chain… just ask the woman checking you out across the street! Trust me my fashionistos you wont have any problem scoring a date for tonights movie in the park with this style combo.

To see how this summer trend is inspiring us around the showroom continue scrolling to find an array of style options as well as other fun inspirations. Stay basic and bold today my darlings!
